Chemical synthesis in the Department focuses on developing novel methodologies. Catalysis research is at the heart of our vision through the virtual Catalysis@Cambridge Centre. The research in this Centre will enable us to develop new strategies for C-H bond activation, enantioselective catalysis, the conversion of renewable resources to new feedstocks and fuels and for energy-efficient synthesis routes. We aim to utilise the power of chemical and biocatalysis, both in the context of biomedical research and in the area of sustainable energy, to develop sustainable chemical synthesis strategies.
