Anodizing is one of the surface treatments of aluminum and its alloys to improve corrosion-resistance, mechanical, and appearance properties. The anodized aluminum alloy is commonly used in applications with high touch surfaces such as door handles, medical equipment, and food containers. However, the common anodizing cannot prevent microorganisms attaching to the surface and surviving there, causing a direct transfer of infectious diseases. In the present work, a novel fabrication process has been proposed in order to produce the anodized aluminum alloy with excellent antibacterial and corrosion-resistance properties. The potential benefit of this research findings is particularly great for healthcare and wellness industry as well as food industry.
